STAR WARS GALAXY 7

First post of 2012, and first one in a while.

I've finished my cards for the Galaxy 7 cards not too long ago, in a few weeks I can post them once they've been approved. Second set I've done with acrylics on sketch cards, first Star Wars set in paint, I'm really happy how they turned out, it's not easy painting on little cards, the card stock soaks up the paint extremely fast, so I have to work extra fast when I want to work in the same layer.

But none the less, getting better with each card I paint, so that's good for future card sets.

Last weekend was F.A.C.T.S. 2011 in Ghent, Belgium. Our very own 'small' Comic Con. This was my second year going and first time having a table at the Artist Alley. I was selling my paintings and a couple of sketch cards. http://www.facts.be/

And as a bonus, there were some great guest actors, Kenny Baker, Jeremy Bulloch, Edward Furlong, Dirk Benedict and... Julian Glover and Tom Felton, two actors I thought, hey, why not make a painting and have it signed to own a unique keepsake, so I did.

Tom Felton said quote: "I've seen a lot of art and this one is fantastic! Absolutely great."

He signed it : "To Eli, Great Work Muggle!"

And of course Julian Glover, a real classic actor. He loved the painting and was pleasantly surprised. He signed it with: "To Eli, With Thanks and Admiration"

Alright, here are my latest paintings I made over the last couple of months, I do have a very large Avatar and Iron Man that I need to take a photograph of, so I'll post that in the next couple of days.

Most of them are 8"x8" and 12"x12", some are larger up to 26". Enjoy.

Coco Moca Comic Con

Okay for my next post I would like to say was privileged to be part of the exhibit Coco Moca at San Diego Comic con this summer, the art had one theme: make it about Conan O'Brien's alter ego The Flaming C, so I did, I made a 16"x16" painting of how the flaming c would look like in real life.

I send over a print to the good people of Team Coco and they framed the print up lovely (I have that frame hanging in my workshop by the way).

As you can see they displayed it right above Conan's hand.

Got my blank sketch cards from Topps in the mail today! My fourth official sketch card set and this is a big one, actually the biggest set of trading cards! To work on star wars galaxy is a dream come true, now let's get started.

Long time since I've posted anything. Been kinda busy. My second official sketch card set for Rittenhouse Archives are allready for sale, the set is called Marvel: Heroes and Villains http://www.scifihobby.com/ I did 75 cards.

My next project for Rittenhouse isn't anounced yet, but I'm currently working on it, so I can't say anything about it yet. It will be my third official set and I feel that I'm getting better at them every card I make, I'm trying to put the same quality that I put in my paintings into the small sketch cards, this set will be my best one so far.

I've also been contacted by Topps, hope I can be a part of a Star Wars set, that would be awesome.

Brand new Joker painting

Due to the sketch cards, I haven't had much time to paint anymore, so after the cards were finished I thought I would get the old brushes out and paint some more, I've lined up some designs for a number of Joker paintings, there were so many images that I haven't even painted yet to show the many variations of Heath Ledger's performance. Here's a painting I made before starting with the Breygent sketch cards. It's a commission and it's quite big, 40x63 inches. I'm so glad he chose this scene for me to paint, and on this size, the image works perfectly on such a large scale.

Today I finally began with my first sketch card project. I contacted Tom from Breygent and he said he had some projects, I chose to make 75 sketch cards for the Sci-Fi and Horror series. I will have my work cut out until May, I will make some small paintings in between.

Canvascollection is over, I brought three works, and one was selected. Out of 3900 works in Antwerp, only 260 were selected, so I'm pleased with that. The national jury had the job of selecting only 50 from those 260, and my work didn't make the final cut.

Iron Man

Wanted to do something different than portraits, and turned out to be quite the challenge, metal is one of the hardest materials to paint, you have to get all the shadings and shines just right. And what better way to paint metal than Iron Man, the second one is almost coming out in theaters, so just in time.

The victim gets all fuzzy. One of my favourite Dark Knight scenes was the interrogation scene. This caption is right before the joker gets smacked on the table by Batman. It measures 8"x8" and again acrylic paint on canvas.

This was my last painting of 2009, it was made on demand, and I think this design was really perfect for a large size, I made the design on a much smaller scale, on 8"x8", that was fine, but it really came to life on the 40"x40" format. I'm very pleased with this one.

Been busy with a large project, 40 inch painting. After that I'm making a series of Joker paintings to pick out three for the Canvas Collection Art contest. I'll be starting those in January, hope to get them done by February. In the meantime I made another sketch card, hope to make a lot of them soon, still getting the hang of the Copic Markers.

Made some sketch cards of the show Heroes, I will be making loads of sketchcards in the next couple of weeks, they're so much faster done than a painting and in some way a little more fun, although I really love painting, the possibilities with these Copic Markers are endless. I hope I can do a series for a trading card company soon, I've recently picked up a great sketch card from the Indiana Jones Materpieces from Topps. It would be great to be able to make some of my own.

My very first attempt at a sketch card with copic markers, as soon as the markers arrived in the mail I wanted to get started right away, 1 hour later, I got this result, it still is a little getting used to, but once I make a couple I'll really get the hang of it.

The most difficult thing and difference with painting with acrylics is definitely once you make a mistake, it's almost impossible to correct it, so I'll better not make too many mistakes, or I'll have to start over again.

I finally painted my first Indiana Jones, again on the 8x8 inch format, I'm beginning to like this size, it's not too large, but definitely not too small, in comparison with the sketch cards, I hope I did Harrison Ford proud with this portrait :)

Yet another joker painting, I just love to paint the Joker, it's his expressions that strike me the most, this one is on the smaller side: 8"x8", that's because I'm planning on making sketch cards, the size of those are 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" , so a lot smaller.

I've changed my signature on the paintings, I felt that this is much better for smaller size pieces than my name.
